I'm a poet and librarian who thrives on empowering people with the skills, knowledge, and connections to leverage information, technology, and their own curiosity and ingenuity to bring their dreams into fruition. With over twenty years in education - in corporate, university, and high school settings, I currently serve as the librarian for Maggie L. Walker Governor's School. I'm also a poet who curates poetryriver.org, a resource site for diversifying the poetry taught in American literature classes, and for raising awareness about documentary poetry, a pulse within poetry that combines primary source research with poetry writing, most often to give voice to the experiences of people whose stories have been silenced or ignored. I write poetry too, including documentary poetry, and will be teaching a workshop about documentary poetry on Friday, March 28, at the 2014 Split this Rock Poetry Festival in Washington, DC.
